On the day of your photoshoot, you want to be relaxed and comfortable. To make sure that happens, and to avoid any stress on the day, you need to prepare. Doing the prep work beforehand will make the experience smooth and keep any worries at bay. Whether it’s your first or fiftieth time having your picture taken professionally, here are some tips to help you prepare for your photo shoot.

Get Some Rest

You want to look your best in your pictures so get a good night’s rest. Avoid tired under eyes and not so subtle mid-photo yawns. It’s amazing how much sleep can brighten your appearance on the day. Even just this one small thing can alter how you look on camera.

Look After Your Skin

Go beyond just getting a good night’s sleep. A few weeks (or months) before, right up until the day of, be mindful of taking good care of your skin. You should regularly moisturise, and keep out of the sun to avoid sunburn – you don’t want burn marks making an appearance in your photos. Most importantly, drink lots of water! Staying hydrated will do wonders for your skin. Doing all of this will help smooth wrinkles, reduces spots and help your completion glow on the day.

Plan Your Outfits

What you’re going to wear for the photoshoot is something you need to think about well before the day. Take time to try different looks and styles to see what is going to work for the kind of photos you’re trying to get. Do some research and look at outfit inspirations online. Avoid busy patterns, something plain but bold is what we recommend. If you’re having a photoshoot with multiple people make sure you discuss your wardrobe options. Try to avoid colours which clash with one another and look for styles to complement one another.

Personal Grooming

Take care of all the small, personal details in the days before your photoshoot. If you want to shave your legs, trim any stray nose hairs, or even get a spray tan, be sure to take care of it with time to spare. You should also be mindful of how you want your hair and makeup to look. This might mean booking a haircut or style a few days before the shoot or practising different makeup looks. If you don’t want to fuss with this on the day and decide to hire a hair or makeup artist to take care of you, then be sure to book them well in advance to get exactly what you’re looking for. If it’s a windy day or the weather is just being it’s usually unreliable self then take a long a hairbrush and an umbrella.

Get Everything Together

Set out anything you need the night before. Be it clothes, accessories, or train tickets to get to your location, you don’t want to forget something important in a rush to get to your photoshoot. Being prepared will allow you to focus on the task at hand – taking amazing pictures!
